Favorite Game Dev Blogs?

In my relentless pursuit of ditching shithole social media and re-powering my RSS feeds, last week I asked for readers favorite Programming Blogs, this week I'd like to ask for favorite Game Dev blogs.

Currently, I follow:

Fortress of Doors
game design aspect of the month
INTELLIGENT ARTIFICE
Lost Garden
Raph Koster
The Ludologist
Zen of Design
Sir Tap Tap
Critical Distance

Feels like Game Dev blogs aren't updated as much as programming blogs. Not sure what that means, so let's go with game designers are lazy. Like any good scientist, I'll make the data fit.

90% lazy plus another 90% spent not releasing games. It adds up.

Nice...a couple of these I don't read. Adding them to the old RSS feed.

yes, game devs blog take forever to update.  I find it easier just to post a screenshot dump every couple days but even then there are long breaks of nothingness.  👍

I enjoy Frictional Games blog, they post mostly about game design at http://frictionalgames.blogspot.se/?m=1

Once you get your RSS feeds all sorted, any chance you could put up an OPML file for our own use? I feel like you'll have a pretty awesome list put together

http://www.indieretronews.com/ for all the homebrews releases.
https://mixnmojo.com/ for all Lucasartesque related stuff.

I'll be that garbage guy and say that we try to say some interesting stuff on our podcast Pretentious Game Ideas (pgipodcast.com). I'm guessing we skew too beginner / enthusiast to be of use to you, although that just means you'd be a great guest if you ever wanted to share some of your audio wisdom with the mewling masses!

I follow Mix-n-Mojo, but they aren't game dev, most "press".

Yes, I will share my OPML file when I'm done.

There are a lot of great articles on Gamasutra but I'm sure you know this site already.
Maybe you just haven't thought of it or is there a reason you didn't include it in your list?

Gamasutra is in my main game-press list, so it didn't make it here, but it is a great resource.

I second https://emshort.blog :)

I like these guys:
- Cliffski/Positech's blog: http://positech.co.uk/cliffsblog/
- Jeff Vogel: http://jeff-vogel.blogspot.com/

Thanks for posting these, btw, it feels like blogs written by real people are getting harder to find (as everyone moves to twitter, I suppose).

Annnnnnnd, far off-topic, but _marginally_ relevant (in the sense that they're Real Game Dev related and not twitter fights :|), these video streams are super:

- Jonathan Blow -- building a programming language and a game therein: https://www.twitch.tv/naysayer88
- Casey Muratori -- building a game engine from scratch (and a game!): https://handmadehero.org/

(sorry if either's been mentioned before ;)).

The current trend for video blogs is annoying.  I consume a lot of information really fast when I read and I rarely have the time to watch drawn out videos.

Boy isn't that the truth! Every time I search for a "How to" or "DiY" tutorial now, it's ALWAYS a video of epic length, when written instructions take 6 lines. People don't read anymore and that is really sad.

I occasionally blog about new dev blogs, e.g. http://www.intelligent-artifice.com/2004/07/new_gaming_blog-2.html

The Frictional Games (Amnesia, Soma) blog is updated infrequently but occasionally has excellent articles on game design.  Here's a good one about the implementation of player choice in games:  https://frictionalgames.blogspot.com/2017/07/the-illusion-of-analog-world.html
