The Pirate Book

May 26, 2008 ten past eight am

Last week a mysterious package arrived at the Hothead corporate offices.  It was addressed to me and from a far off and mystical land called "It'a-ly".  After the bomb/bio-squad left, I embarrassingly opened the brown padded envelope to find the most wonderful book inside, a gift from Giulio Palmieri, a long time Monkey Island and Pirate fan.  I placed it in my Cabinet of All Things Pirate where it sits proudly.  Thanks man.  First George and Steven make me a new Indy film, and now this.

Oh wow. That is pretty cool.

So, anyone up for a let's-send-Ron/Hothead-some-gifts thing, like how the guys at the Telltale Forums sent Telltale some gifts?

Posted by Pandan on May 26, 2008 twenty past noon

Oh, definitely. What should we send first?
I've been thinking of making a three headed monkey but I can't find any suitable monkeys for the cause.

Posted by Kroms on May 26, 2008 quarter past seven pm

Ha! I'm deadly serious though...

Posted by Pandan on May 27, 2008 twenty to one pm

Well, so am I.
Should we team up?

Posted by Kroms on May 27, 2008 six pm

:D Okay! Excellent!

Yes. Let's meet somewhere and start discussing in SECRET. (Ron stop reading this.) Ummm....I've linked my email, just email me with the subject :P

Posted by Pandan on May 31, 2008 twenty past two am

(Turns around)
Damn it... Nothing there. Again.

"Defoe claims to have started writing stories about pirates to convince a young lady (Sophie, who has a quarter of a million pounds) to leave her boyfriend for him (she didn't)"

My kind of guy.

So hows the book?? It seems really good.

Posted by Jacob Brodersen on May 26, 2008 five past eleven am

He has written loads of pirate books if your all interested. :)

If pirates aren't your thing (why are you here?) he has also written a book called "How Animals Have Sex"! :D

AHAHAHA. Hit #7 was totally unexpected and made me laugh.

Posted by Lindsey on May 26, 2008 twenty to noon

Ooh, that's a good book.  You should definitely read that.

Can we have more Cabinet photos?

Posted by Mark Clapham on May 26, 2008 twenty to one pm

Those are great books. The 'with Communists' one is particularly fine. I think most Monkey Island fans would enjoy them.

Posted by gorba on May 26, 2008 ten past one pm

Didn't the car I set you arrive yet?

Posted by Snake on May 26, 2008 twenty to five pm

Have a nice day.

Posted by MrNacho on May 27, 2008 twenty past three am

Allright Ron, we got it, George and Steve made the film for you. You can stop making the joke now.

Congrats on the book. I'd send you Douglas Adam's Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy if I had one of my own :(

Owning the rights to a franchise usually helps.

Does it compare to "On Stranger Tides" ?

Posted by meglic on May 31, 2008 twenty five past eight am

Hi, I'm a big fan of your music, especially the music in the Monkey Island series, but I can't find out which genre of music does it belong to. I know that it's some mix of lounge & surf rock, and if there is some special term for this genre, I would really appreciate to know it 'cos I dig it very much. Sorry for my bad english & have nice greetings from Croatia.

Posted by meglic on May 31, 2008 twenty five to nine am

ohhh, no, now I misplaced you with Michael Land, lol ;)))
Now I feel really stupid :/
Great games though.

Posted by stewie on May 31, 2008 twenty past two pm

According to someone who's written a review on Amazon (well, if it appears anywhere on the internet it must be true!) Gideon Defoe is working with Aardman Animations (who did Wallace & Gromit and Chicken Run) to turn the first two pirate books in to a film. I had a quick look at Aardman's site, but it's one of those weird sites where it's impossible to actually find anything out.

One question:

Have you played Port Royale 2?

Posted by gorba on Jun 5, 2008 twenty to six pm

I've just beaten Peny Arcade Adventures now....
Plese Ron, tell me Death Spank is not gonna be as bad as this one...

Posted by Dante Kleinberg on Jun 6, 2008 seven am

I read one of those The Pirates! books (I think "in an Adventure with Scientists") but I can't say I enjoyed it.  It was so wacky, so absurd, so random, that it left me a little cold/annoyed.  In fact, it was a flip book with another The Pirates! on the other side and I never bothered to read the second one.

Posted by Dante Kleinberg on Jun 6, 2008 seven am

Gee, sorry.  I don't mean to sound like a negativist.

Um, Indy 4 was awesome?  I love Penny Arcade Adventures #1?  Pizza is my favorite food?  Have I counterbalanced my negativity yet?

RON AND HIS MACHINATIONS ARE DEAD.   ONE OF THESE DAYS, HE'LL REALISE IT AND FADE FROM PUBLIC VIEW.

Posted by someguy on Jun 11, 2008 quarter past two pm

Posted by Giorgio on Jun 16, 2008 five past three pm

Shut up.

Posted by Cyrus on Jun 8, 2008 half past two am

Oh my Ron, where to begin.  Monkey Island and Indy and Tenticles were what first brought my family together, however sad that might sound.  I can't even believe how wonderful you are.  You're like the Beatles of gaming.  I havent played a good adventure game since I last played one of yours.  I just want to hug you.  Strange, but whatever, you are so great.

Posted by Will on Jul 7, 2008 twenty to three pm

The way you spelt Tentacle, and put it into plural instinctively had me thinking of testicles. Which is no great picture to have in mind as you think of tentacles. They don't go well together. They're not peaches and cream.

Tenticls. Hmhmhmh!
